What is Hospice and Palliative Care?
The philosophy of hospice is to provide the terminally ill patient and their support network with loving care, provided in familiar and tranquil surroundings with the goal of encouraging the patient to live fully and comfortably for as long as possible.
Hospice works toward improving the quality of life for the terminally ill patient and supporting their loved ones during this time. This support will permit the patient to pass away naturally surrounded by those who love them.
Throughout the process, Hospice care seeks to alleviate emotional and spiritual pain and to control the accompanying symptoms. To accomplish this, Hospice utilizes a diversified team consisting of: Physicians, Registered Nurses, Licensed Vocational Nurses, Certified Home Health Aides, Medical Social Workers, Spiritual Counselors and trained Volunteers. This team's focus is to improve the quality of care for the patient who is facing a life limiting disease.
Though some may want to seek aggressive curative treatment, those who choose to forgo treatment can rest assured that the Angels of the Valley Hospice Care team can provide attention, friendship, care and love, all of which can improve the quality of a patient’s life on a day-to-day basis. Angels of the Valley Hospice Care is committed to doing this not only through its network of dedicated professional staff, but through the involvement of a supportive community.
“Palliative care” is a term that is interchangeable with Hospice care. Palliative care is a form of medical care that focuses on reducing the severity of the symptoms of the disease, rather than curing or stopping the progression of the disease.
With appropriate intervention, and by using the multitude of resources available for palliation and pain control, the last months, weeks and days of an individual’s life can have quality and provide loved ones with lasting memories of special moments together.
Angels of the Valley Hospice offers care to those meeting the following criteria:
- Must be diagnosed with a progressive terminal illness by the patient's a primary physician as well as our Medical Director.
- The patient and or family members must elect palliative care instead of curative care as a focus of medical attention.
- Patient and/or family must consent to Angels of the Valley Hospice services.
